Cadillac Repair: starter, solinoid, cadillac deville

Question
I have a 93 Cadillac Deville and would like to know the cost of repairing a starter myself versus sending it in to a mechanic for repair and which would be best

Answer
Hi James, It depends on what you want to replace that determines the repair costs. Normally we don't rebuild anymore at the dealer level. I suppose if you wanted to replace the brushes or solinoid then that would be cheaper than installing a new or rebuilt unit. If you have the tools and stands to safely raise the front end up then replacing the starter and solinoid is the best way to go and an easy repair. It would save an hour to an hour and a half of labor time doing it yourself. Bill
