Cadillac Repair: 1989 Cadillac Eldrodro, ohmeter, lock cylinder

My car's theft system kicks on everytime i put the key in the ingtion and try to start the car... i had to 2 sets of keys and neither work. Any idea on what is wrong and how it could be fixed?  We've tried to clean the pallet on the key and clean on the key hole with some parts cleaner.  and a friend of my father's said to try and un hook the postive battery cable so we tried that but still won't start cause the theft system kicks in.. i would appracite any help

Hi Eric, Whats happening here is that there are 2 small wires, 20 gage, that attach to the ignition lock cylinder and after flexing so many times one of them breaks in half. The solution is to eithor replace the ignition lock cylinder and keys or take an ohmeter and measure the resistance of the key pellet and go to radio shack and get a resister as close to it as you can. Then where the wires come out at the base of the steering column you will see a 2 wire connector with white wires. Cut the 2 wires on the column side and install the resistor. The down side is that the key resistor isn't needed to start the car anymore but you probably save $200 in parts and labor. Hope that helps. Bill
