Cadillac Repair: driverside power window broken, phillips screw, oahu hi

Question
Can you tell me how to get the driver side door trim panel off so I can look and see why my power window is broken.  (1992 Cadillac Sevile STS - 4 door) I heard a loud clicking sound right before my window stopped working and my friend said that the sound indicates my window motor is broken.  I want to try to fix this myself to save money but I am not a very experienced mechanic.

I was also thinking about just raising the window to the closed position so I can use my car while I find time to fix it ... right now the window is open and I cant lock the car so I dont feel safe using it.

Can you help me get inside the door to look at the window mechanism?

Thanks

Answer
Hi Walter, What you need to do is useing a pocket flatblade screwrdiver push it in at the front of the window switch panel against a spring clip and lift up. Remove the wire connectors. Then at the top and bottom edges of the door lock switch panel gently pry it out and unplug the connector. You will see a phillips screw...remove it. Then on the lower LH corner of the door panel carpet place your screwdriver under the carpet cardboard and pry up. Remove that phillips screw. Then the door panel should lift straight up. DO NOT pry out with any kind of tool or you will be spending major money in repairs if the hooks break off. Once the panel is off the motor is right in the open and removing 3 nuts and prying with a screwdriver you will have it off. Remove the connector and reverse the procedure to install the new motor. Hope that helps. Bill
