Cadillac Repair: 88 Brougham check engine light, fuse block, computor

Question
My check engine light does not turn on at all when starting the car (or any time). Starting with what is the simplest solution, burnt out bulb, is it recommended to try to repair this at home? Any thoughts on what else might cause this?
Thank you

Answer
Hi Kelly, Replacing the bulb would be the simplest thing to do. Also check the fuses...should be an ECM fuse in the fuse block. If that doesn't fix it then it is a process of elimination by unplugging the computor and jumpering the wires to power the bulb. If it lights then it looks like you have a bad computor but you need to hook up a scan tool to see if the ecm is working normal. If no light then you would have to trace the wires and check the printed circuit behind the bulb. Hope that helps. Bill
