Cadillac Repair: heater, lumina van, ampmeter

Question
hi, i know your not listed as a chevy expert but i was wondering if you could maybe give me an idea of what my problem is. i have a 92 lumina van that the heater fan wont stay on. it comes on and blows good for about 5 minutes and then goes off. stays off awhile then will start back up. i thought it was probably just the switch control panel so i put a new one on today just to find out that wasn't it. it almost acts like it has a automatic reset minibreaker on it or something. i would realy appreciate it if you could give me some kind of idea what this could be.

Answer
Hi Don, If this is the original blower motor in the van and it also makes a squeak, rumble or grinding noise when starting, stopping or running then the motor needs to get replaced. If it runs quiet and it quits on hi speed only then it could be the hi fan relay needs to be replaced. If it quits on all speeds then it is probably the motor. The relay and motor are in a bad spot in that you have to open the hood and lean over the engine once the air cleaner assembly is removed to change eithor one. If you know how it use an ampmeter and it reads 10 amps or more on any speed then the motor is probably bad. Hope that helps. Bill
