Cadillac Repair: 99 Seville DIC Warning, seville sls, light message

Question
I have a 99 Cad Seville SLS, and the DIC has 2 warnings currently displaying. They are (1) Speed limited to 90, and (2) Service Air Bag. Current codes displayed in the OBD are: P1611, P1652, B1131, C1252, C1253, and U1255. The dealer says the only way to fix it is to replace both front struts and the module that controls the stabilty track, and it will cost about $5K. My question is a simple one-- is there any way to get these displays disabled or reset without doing the repairs, or is it possible to get these things fixed at a much cheaper cost? I just want to get it to the point I can dump this puppy and not lose money on trade in value because of these warnings.

Answer
Hi Will, Unfortunately you have a very sofisticated car and you will need to fix what is broken to turn off a message. Clearing the codes would only be a temporary fix and the lights or messages would be back on shortly. Maybe they would stay off for a salesmans test drive, clear the codes and see how long it takes for the light/message to return. If it was a bulb that was lit then removing a bulb is an option. In looking at the code diagnosis trees it is real important that you have someone that knows what they are doing working on the car because there are complicated tests and procedures that must be followed that could lead to expensive parts needing to be replaced. What I might suggest is getting the SIR problem fixed and then see what trade value is or if you trust the diagnosis for the struts then replace them yourself. $5000 seems like alot of money for these repairs but the car new wasn't cheap eithor. Maybe having another shop look at the car would be a good idea especially if the first one wasn't a caddy dealer. Try the parts store or junkyard/auto rebuilder for cheaper prices on parts. The labor cost would be the only other thing you could save money on. Bill
