Auto Air Conditioning & Heater Repair: Evaporator coil, personal mechanic, haynes book

Question
Hello,
The evaporator coil on my 2000 Dakota leaks and needs replacing. I have a mechanic who will do the work, but he wants the repair procedure, as he knows the dash has to come out. Where can I find this procedure? I looked in a Haynes book but it didn't have that topic.
Thanks for your help.

Dan

Answer
Is the mechanic an actual mechanic? I only ask this because he should have access to repair procedures through his shop. Most independents have either alldata.com or www.mitchell1.com for their service information needs. Either one of those has a DIY section for anyone that needs information on a subscription, however. For example, any vehicle owner can purchase a 1 week subscription for around $10. Most vehicle manufacturers offer service info online for a charge, but I'm not sure about Dodge.

Although the job is not difficult, it is lengthy in steps. I'd love to copy and paste the steps right here, but that's a copyright violation, unfortunately. The steps span several sections of the manual (Instrument Panel R&R, A/C heater case R&R, and Evap core R&R), which would be a great investment in the long run. Online info is great, but you can drag a manual (the *factory* manual) to the car one time, and have all the info you need (or lend it to your personal mechanic). I would suggest ordering one online, or visiting the local dealer to purchase it. I, personally, stay away from Haynes guides ;)

Good luck!
