Cadillac Repair: map sensor, fuel pressure regulator, obd 1

Question
i have a 1995 cadillac sts and my service engine light is on.  my friend checked it out with the obd 1 and it said the fuel system was too rich. the cars exhaust smells like heavy gasoline and it is sometimes hard to start. also the car shakes when i try to give it gas but calms down at higher rpm's. we think it could be the map sensor but can you think of any other possibilities?

Answer
Hi Kurt, What code(s) were stored by the computer and what engine do you have? Map sensor, oxygen sensor, leaking or shorted fuel injector or leaking fuel pressure regulator diaphram will cause a rich running engine to name a few. Of course if the engine hasn't had a tune-up in awhile a fouled sparkplug or open sparkplug wire will cause rich running. Hope that helps. Bill
