Cadillac Repair: 1992 Seville Sts, caddys, condition thanks

Question
I am looking at buying a 92 seville with 150,000
on it. How long will the car last on average how expensive is it to fix. Eng. Trans last for a while? If the car sat for 3 months without use would that cause any problems. One of the cooling hoses is spider webed all over is that normal. And is is safe to drive it home with the hose in that condition,Thanks Ryan

Answer
Hi Ryan, If a car sits for 3 months and is then started up and driven there is no telling what kind or problems might crop up. The caddys are getting built alot better than in 1985-1986 when this engine/trans family was first used. However at this mileage the trans and engine might be on borrowed time although I have seen afew that have lasted 200,000 miles before replacement was needed. I would strongly suggest that you have a mechanic look it over and see what might be needing repaired. Of course if the car was being sold for $1000-$1500 and the body and interrior was in good shape then spending $5000 on an engine or $2800 for a trans might be worth it if it needed to be done with-in 1 years time. The cobwebs on the  hose wouldn't be a problem so long as the condition of the hose was ok. Bill
