Chevrolet Repair: aveo, chevy aveo, aveo

Question
I have a 2008 Chevy Aveo with about 75000 miles. A friend said that I should replace the timing belt or it will cause damage if it broke. Is this true? Was I really suppose to change it at 50,000 miles?

Answer
GOOD MORNING GAIL, WHAT I REMEMBER ABOUT THE AVEO IS THE TIMING BELT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED @60K..FAILURE TO DO THIS IS NOT A GOOD PRACTICE..IF THIS BELT BREAKS THE VALVES WILL MORE THEN LIKELY HIT THE TOP OF THE PISTONS BENDING THE VALVES..NOW YOU HAVE A REAL PROBLEM ON YOUR HANDS. ABOUT $1600 WORTH. SO YOU SEE IT IS MUCH BETTER TO REPLACE THIS BEFORE THE BELT BREAKS. A NEW TIMING BELT WITH LABOR IS ABOUT $350.00 GIVE OR TAKE SOME...IF YOU LOOK THIS UP IN YOUR OWNERS MANUAL IT SHOULD GUIDE YOU AT THE CORRECT MIL TO REPLACE IT..GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU..TOM..
