Chevrolet Repair: rear view mirror, glue residue, rear view mirror

Question
My rearview mirror fell off on my 2005 impala. Upon purchasing a glue repair kit to fix it,i noticed a small plastic tab that peeled off windshield where the mount is glued. Is glue the proper way to fix or does GM use some other method to adhere mirror mount to windshield? There was a black coating on upper portion of windshield and where mirror mount gets glued. Will i do damage to this by gluing it? Also if I have a problem with the glue, will I do damage to anything if I have to scrap off the glue?

Answer
HI HENRY,, TAKE A CRAYON AND DRAW A OUTLINE OF THE GLUE THAT WAS ON THE WINDOW ON THE OUTSIDE SO YOU KNOW WHERE TO GLUE THE MIRROR. THEN TAKE A RAZOR BLADE AND PEEL OFF THE GLUE RESIDUE ON THE INSIDE OF YOUR WINDOW. MAKE SURE YOU GET A MIRROR GLUE ONLY FOR THIS JOB..NOTHING ELSE WILL WORK...FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER. DO NOT PUT THE MIRROR TO THE BUTTON THAT YOU GLUED TO THE WINDOW FOR 1 HOUR FOR GOOD CURE..YES,, THIS IS HOW GM HOLDS THERE MIRRORS ON.. IF THE MIRROR FALLS OFF IN THE FUTURE YOU CAN TAKE A RAZOR BLADE AND PEEL THE OLD GLUE OFF AND START ALL OVER. ALSO USE A WIRE WHEEL OR LIGHT SANDPAPER TO REMOVE ALL THE GLUE OFF OF THE BUTTOM BEFORE USING NEW GLUE.... THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER HERE IS CLEAN,CLEAN AND CLEAN. IF ALL IS CLEAN THIS GLUE WILL WORK.YOU WILL NOT DO ANY HARM TO ANYTHING WITH THIS GLUE..GOOD LUCK TO YOU..
