QUESTION: Me and you have been talking but I need advice on this one the most. I was driving my moms 1998 chevy camaro today. When I started it up I noticed that the security light was on. It is a yellow light. I shyt the car off and it came on again. I drove it and it doesnt go away. I figured her key was bad. So I put my dads key in it and started it it still came up and the light never goes away. I put my scanner on it and it didnt pull up any codes. Why is this on and what can I do to correct it. Thanks.

ANSWER: HI SEAN,YOUR KEY READER IS GOING BAD.I AM SURPRISE THE CAR STARTED THIS WAY.USUALLY THEY DO NOT. SOON CAR WILL NOT START. WHEN THIS HAPPENS,LEAVE THE KEY IN THE ON POSISTION FOR 20 MIN,TURN KEY OFF AND START IT. WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE IGN SWITCH AND KEY WITH THE DIODE CHIP.. HAVE IT KEYED ALIKE AT THE DEALER. INSTALL THE NEW SWITCH,TURN THE KEY ON FOR 20 MINUTES TO RELEARN AND MAKE SURE BATTERY IS STRONG WHILE IN RELEARN MODE. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU AND AGAIN RATE THIS ANS.THANK YOU ,,,TOM...

ANSWER: HI SEAN,NOT THE SWITCH BUT THE LOCK CYLINDER IN THE COLUMN..I MENT TO SAY LOCK CYLINDER. SORRY
NOT HARD,REMOVE THE STEERING WHEEL, AIR BAG,AND UPPER PLATE REMOVE THE SCREW FOR THE LOCK CYLINDER AND REMOVE AND REPLACE..GET ON GOOGLE FOR A EXPLODED VIEW.. HOPE THIS HELPS,, TOM..

QUESTION: Ok last question and then I will rate you. I found my Haynes Manuel and found out how to do it. When I buy the new cylinder does it have to be the key with the chip on it. I found an ignition cylinder on eBay that has two keys without the chip on it. Do I have to buy an ignition cylinder with the chip keys or can I buy this one and take it somewhere to where they can rekey it with a chip key. Thanks.

HI SEAN,YOU NEED TO GET THIS FROM GM WITH THE ANTI-THEFT LOCK CYLINDER AND KEY.THE KEY HAS A DOIDE IN IT SO WHEN YOU TURN THE IGN ON THE PCM READS THIS DIODE AND SENDS SIGNAL TO THE CRANK SENSOR AND FUEL PUMP RELAY TO START THE CAR. LET ME KNOW HOW YOU MAKE OUT,,,,TOM....
