Chevrolet Repair: tranny flush, 2004 chevy cavalier, chevy cavalier ls

Question
I have a 2004 chevy cavalier ls with 136000 mi on it. I just had some minor work done on it, a tune up and ac.  Well, my mechanic recommends a transmission flush. The problem is I decided to do some research and am finding conflicting views. I'm hearing that if it has high miles, burnt fluid (mine does) and has never had one then a tranny flush could cause more damage. I just purchased this car 3 months ago so I'm not sure if it has ever had one. do I do a tranny flush or just change out the fluid? i know when the fluid is changed there is still some in the torqe converter so not all of it is changed. any advice would be much appreciated!!

Answer
HI JENNIFER. WELL, YOU HAVE DONE YOUR HOMEWORK !!!IF YOUR OIL IS [REALLY DIRTY,] I AGREE WITH YOU, JUST DROP THE PAN AND INSTALL NEW FILTER AND REFILL THE TRANS WITH FRESH OIL. YOU ARE CORRECT WITH THERE BEING OIL STILL IN THE CONVERTOR. BUT THIS IS BETTER THEN NOTHING...WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FLUSH THE OLD OIL OUT OF THE SYSTEM IS ALL THE OLD CLUTCH PARTICALS GET REMOVED FROM THE OIL,THESE OLD PARTICALS ACT LIKE CLUTCHES..SO WHEN REMOVED WHAT HAPPENS IS IT WILL START TO SLIP..RPM'S GO UP AND CAR DOES NOT MOVE AS IT SHOULD..I AM NOT SAYING THAT FLUSHING IS NOT A GOOD PRACTICE BUT IN YOUR CASE,,I AM WITH YOU...I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU AND PLEASE WHEN YOU LEAVE THIS SITE WOULD YOU RATE MY ANSWER..THANK YOU,,, TOM...
