Chevrolet Repair: intermittent hesitation, fuel pressure gauge, mass air flow sensor

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1988 chevy c1500 with a 5.7 auto, 86k miles.  My problem is about a week ago the truck started hesitating coming off an idle to the point of dying, but not all the time, does seem to make a difference cold or warmed up and a few times during regular drivin, seems to be getting worse. Changed the fuel filter and added a bottle of lucas fuel injector cleaner but no change. Can you point me in the right direction but before I start throwing money at it.  Thanks.

ANSWER: HI PAUL, FIRST OFF, THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME AS MUCH INFO AS YOU DID,THIS HELPS ME UNDERSTAND WHERE WE ARE AT. SOME PEOPLE WANT ME TO BE MIND READERS !!! I HOPE EVERYONE READS THIS..SORRY  I AM GOING OFF..>>>>>>>> OK TO YOUR PROBLEM,, FIRST OFF, THE FUEL FILTER WOULD NOT DO THIS. A BAD FILTER WOULD MAKE IT BOG DOWN AT HIGHER SPEEDS..CAN YOU GET YOURSELF A FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE?
THIS SOUNDS LIKE A POSSIBLE FUEL PUMP FAILURE IN THE MAKINGS. IF THE FUEL PRESSURE IS GOOD,SAY 30 TO 35 LBS AT IDLE AND UNDER WAY THIS WOULD BE GOOD. [THIS ENGINE DOES NOT HAVE MULT-PORT INJECTORS CORRECT] MY NEXT CK WOULD BE ON THE MAP OR MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THIS TRUCK HAS AND I AM NOT AT WORK SO I CAN NOT LOOK THIS SPEC UP..ARE YOU ABLE TO GET A SCAN TOOL BY CHANCE ???.THIS WOULD BE A BIG HELP TO CK THE DATA TO AND FROM THE SENSORS..GET BACK TO ME WITH MORE INFO IF POSS. THIS WILL GO TO MY CELL PHONE, SO IT WONT TAKE LONG FOR ME TO GET BACK TO YOU IN THE AM. I AM ON THE EAST COST,I AM GOING TO BED.. I WILL BE WAITNG..TOM..

QUESTION: Thanks Tom for getting back to me so quickly.  I have no codes, I tried to test the fuel pressure but the tester I got assumed I had a rubber hose somewhere between the TBI and the fuel filter, which I do not.  Braided steel all the way.  Do I have to cut my fuel line or does somebody make an adapter to make this work? Thanks again!

Answer
HI PAUL, DO NOT CUT THIS LINE,NO,NO,NO. FOLLOW THE FUEL LINE FROM THE TBI DOWN THERE SHOULD BE A TEST PORT CK VALVE. LOOKS LIKE A TIRE VALVE CAP,REMOVE THIS CAP AND INSIDE THERE IS A SHRADER VALVE,YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SCREW YOUR FUEL PRESS GAUGE INTO THIS TEST PORT...WE WANT TO SEE PRESSURE, I THINK 30 TO 35 LBS..IF THIS LOOKS GOOD I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IF YOU COULD GET THIS SCANNED, LOOK AT THE TPS[ THROTTLE POSTIONING SENSOR] LET ME KNOW HOW YOU MAKE OUT, TOM..
