Chevrolet Repair: 89 chevy k5 blazer v8, chevy k5 blazer, plug wires

QUESTION: Hello Tom, I am stumped. My blazer did fine going up the mtn but at the top it backfired and lost all power and died. When we pulled over to look it had blowen two plug wires off. It wont start and im thinkin its the coil but ive never heard of a bad coil being the cause of the plug wires to come off. I know its not getting fire. What should I do? Please help if you can thanks for your time.       Brittany

ANSWER: HI BRITTANY, WELL I NEVER HEARD OF THIS EITHER. I THINK THE WIRES WERE NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY.
DO YOU RECENTLY HAVE THEM REPLACED ?? IF SO THIS IS COMMON,BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT SEATED. TRY TO PUSH THEM ON TO SEAT THEM. YOU SHOULD FEEL A CLICK OR SNAP. THEN THEY ARE ON THERE. YOU SAY THAT IT WILL NOT START, THERE IS NO IGNITION..ON THIS ENGINE I WOULD CK THE DIST-CAP,AND REMOVE THE ROTOR AND MAKE SURE THE ROTOR DID NOT BURN OUT UNDER THE TAB CAUSING A GROUNDING CONDITION..WONT START LIKE THAT. THE NEXT THING THAT COMES TO MIND IS A BAD IGNITION MODULE, COIL AND PICK-UP COIL. THE PICK UP COIL IS ROUND AND GOES AROUND THE LOWER SECTION OF THE DIST HOUSING. THE COIL IS IN THE TOP SIDE OF THE DIST-CAP. TO CK THE PICK UP COIL REMOVE THE MODULE AND YOU WILL SEE THIS,TUG,[NOT PRY] ON THE 2 WIRES GOING INTO THE PICK-UP COIL,YOU MAY FIND ONE OF THE WIRES IS BROKEN..IF SO, THE DIST WILL HAVE TO COME OUT TO REPLACE. WHEN WAS THIS TUNED LAST ?? IF THIS HAS NOT BEEN TUNED IN A WHILE, A NEW CAP,ROTOR AND COIL FOR STARTERS WOULD BE A GOOD PLACE TO START. THIS SHOULD KEEP YOU BUSY FOR A WHILE,GET BACK TO ME WITH MORE INFO IF YOU NEED ME...I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU. QUESTION: Hey Tom, we got her back up and running. It was a bad coil but after we replaced it it still did want to run. It was getting fire and gas. We thought and thought and finally we relized it jumped time. Im still not sure how that happend but we got it fixed. Thanks for your help! I also rated you and left a good comment.! HI BRITTANY, WHEN YOU SAY IT JUMPED TIMING THAT BOTHERS ME !!! HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT IT JUMPED
TIMING ??? WAS THE DISTRIBUTOR LOOSE,WAS THE DIST CAP FALLING OFF.. WHAT I AM GETTING AT IS I DON'T WANT YOU TO GET STRANDED,BECAUSE IF IT JUMPED TIMING THIS MEANS THAT THE TIMING CHAIN IS LOOSE OR THE CAM GEAR IS MISSING SOME NYLON TEETH.IF SO THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN..SO IF THE DIST OR CAP WAS LOOSE THAT IS COOL. IF NOT I WOULD PUT A TIMING LIGHT ON THIS AND SEE IF THE MARK IS JUMPING ALL OVER THE PLACE...IF I CAN BE OF MORE HELP,YOU GET BACK TO ME..ALSO THANK YOU FOR THE GOOD RATING..TOM..
