Chevrolet Repair: Fan belt, belt pulley, size blazer

QUESTION: I replaced the alternator twice within 3 months it breaks the fan belt like its rubbing and makes loud noise and then breaks, I don't know what else to do please help

ANSWER: HI NYDIA, I WILL ASSUME YOU MEAN THE BELT BREAKS AND NOT THE ALTERNATOR ?? THE WAY YOU WORDED THIS IT SOUNDS LIKE BOTH BREAK. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF CAR YOU HAVE AND ENG SIZE,THIS WOULD HELP ME. BUT SINCE YOU DID NOT GIVE ME THIS INFO,MY BEST ADVISE WOULD BE TO PUT A NEW BELT ON, DO NOT START IT, AND GET YOURSELF A FLASHLIGHT AND CK THE BELT PULLEY ALIGNMENT,I THINK YOU WILL FIND THAT THE BELT IS NOT RUNNING TRUE. THE ONLY THING THAT WILL CAUSE THIS IS THE BELT IS TOUCHING THE OUTSIDE OF A PULLEY,SUCH AS AIR/COND,POWER STEERING,AIR PUMP,ALTERNATOR WHICH WILL WEAR THE BELT OUT VERY FAST. THE BELT HAS TO STAY INSIDE THE PULLY'S..ALOS CK TO MAKE SURE NOTHING IS HITTING ON THE BELT WHEN RUNNING SUCH AS A SHIELD OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. BEING THAT THIS HAPPENED AFTER YOU REPLACED THE ALT THE PROBLEM IS MORE THEN LIKELY AT THIS POINT..MAKE SURE ALL THE BRACKETS ARE IN CORRECT AND TIGHT..I THINK ONCE YOU PUT THE BELT ON AND LOOK REAL GOOD AT THE PULLEY ALIGNMENT YOU WILL SEE A PULLEY THAT IS COCKED... HI NYDIA,OK SO WE HAVE A 5.7L ENGINE, I CAN NOT THINK OF ANYTHING THAT WOULD NOT ALLOW THE ALTERNATOR TO GO BACK INTO IT'S MOUNT CORRECTLY ??? DID YOU LOOK AT THE BELT ROUTING AND ALIGNMENT AND ALSO MAKING SURE THAT NOTHING IS RUBBING ON THE BELT WHEN ENG IS RUNNING ??? THE OTHER PROBLEM THAT I JUST THOUGHT OF IS I WILL ASSUME THIS TRUCK HAS AIR/COND,YOU SAY YOU HEAR A LOUD NOISE AND THEN THE BELT BREAKS. THIS COULD BE FROM A AIR/COND COMPRESSOR LOCKING UP FROM TIME TO TIME. THIS WOULD MAKE A LOUD NOISE ,SQUEAL AND SO ON UNTILL THE BELT BREAKS,THEN THE NOISE WILL STOP. DO YOU EVER SMELL BURNING RUBBER ??? DOES THE BELT LOOK LIKE IT GOT HOT,[IT WILL BE VERY HARD ON THE PULLEY SIDE OF THE BELT.] THE A/C COMPRESSOR WILL COOL DOWN AND SPIN OK TILL IT WARMS UP AGAIN WHEN ANOTHER BELT IS PUT ON..WHAT I WOULD DO TO RULE THIS OUT IS UNPLUG THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR ON THE FRONT SIDE OF THE A/C COMPRESSOR, THIS WILL PREVENT IT FROM TURNING ON, IF PROBLEMS GOES AWAY YOU NEED A NEW COMPRESSOR.
