Chevrolet Repair: 1999 Chevy S-10 battery/alternator problem, fusible link, battery voltage

Question
What do I need to check/fix when my 99 s10 is only running off the battery even though the alternator and battery both have been replaced and are both good.  The battery light comes on and stays on.  The alternator is only putting out around 11.6 when the truck is running and I beleive it should be putting out around 14 running, even had the new alternator tested and everything passed but the truck dies when you remove the pos battery term.  It is a 1999 chevy s-10 4 cyl. 5-speed.  Please help before I drive this da*m truck into a lake.  I have checked all fuses and traced the wires going from battery to fuses box under hood.  Thanks for helping in advance.

Answer
The red wire on the back of the alternator has a fusible link made in it. The easiest way to test it is to check for battery voltage at the nut(where the wire is connected) on the back of the alternator. If low or no voltage fusible link is bad and will need to be replaced.
Check there and let me know what you find.
