Chevrolet Repair: Temperature sensor for hi temp alarm buzzer, holiday rambler rv, alarm buzzer

My 454 is a 1986 model and it is in a P30 chassis for a holiday rambler RV. Carbuerated. On the passengers side, up high on the side of the block there is a switch screwed into the side of the block. It screws in the block and it is very close to the exhaust ports. Two ports forward and two ports aft so near center, rear to front.

Well my plastic part broke off and the wire is dangling with part of switch attached and I want to replace the switch.

Once upon a time I grounded the wire on purpose and the buzzer sounded. Sort of a half way to test.

It is not for the analog temperature gauge as it still works.

It is not leaking. How important is this part/switch and do you have a part number for it? What is it called? Is it a metal temperature switch? Would it be dumb to let it go?

My guess is it just closes at a certain temperature, bringing a ground to the buzzer making it sound off.

I can not find a switch at a parts store. I'm not sure if the switch will leak coolant if it is taken out. Will it leak? I'm afraid to do anything till I find what it is.

Hi Steve... it is an overheat alarm.....and if your temp gauge is working and you watch it you should be fine....those years in the 454 s ran really hot and that was just a backup to temp gauge....with holiday rambler broke good luck finding the part....i know i just bought a new 06 pusher just before they went under....hope this helps
