Chevrolet Repair: Speedometer, taxi meter, wheel assembly

Question
Hello. I have a `95 Lumina LS with a 3.1. At 230 000kms, the speedo and the VSS were changed because the speedo became erratic. The problem persisted. I changed the speedo again (again with a used one)  and it`s still not perfect. Its fine while driving straight, but drops when on a sharp corner. This vehicle is a taxi and the meter is tied into the VSS circuit. The meter works fine and the speed reading on the taxi meter is accurate. Also, the cruise is as erratic as the speedo (cruise follows erratic speedo). Other than a possible bad (new) VSS, are there any other things I should look at?

Thanks,

Ian

Answer
Sounds like you have a bad speedo circuit.  If the meter is connected into the vss and works fine, then the vss signal is good.  Does this vehicle have ABS???  If it does, check the Front drive shaft reluctor rings that are on the shafts them selves.  Its not hard, raise the car and look behind the wheel assembly.  While turning the half shaft, look at the the ring of teeth, and see if one has a crack, that is a usual problem.
I will keep looking for more info.  Hope this helps
