Chevrolet Repair: 97 silverado 6.5 turbo desiel, oil pressure sending unit, low oil pressure

Question
I got this truck in Oct. last year and it ran great until April this year just driving down the road as usual when it started to spit and sputter like it was out of fuel but I had a half tank after a couple of spit sputters and a good jerk it shut off, would not restart for a couple of hours later ran for about 2 1\2 -3 mins reeved up and shut back off with a big cloud of black smoke,it has a new fuel filter(inline) and pump installed after first shut down and it still won't run when it will start it runs for few mins reeves up shuts down with a big cloud of black smoke, had a friend put his computere on it and can't get any codes any ideas. thank you

Answer
Hi Phylis.... well it could be a couple of things.... check for a pinched or blocked fuel line. if ok check the shut down relay, try starting the truck and disconnect the shut down relay....check oil pressure sending unit, as it has a shut down feature as well for low oil pressure....do a fuel pressure drop down test. make sure fuel pressure stays constant and doesn't drop off after a couple minutes...if truck has electric fuel inj check for bad PCM.or bad connections at the PCM...hope this helps
