Howie,  I have a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 4.8 litre.  When I fill the gas tank to full the gage will drop to empty and the low fuel light will come on.  While driving it will bounce back and forth until I drive about 50 miles.  It then will work properly until I get to I sit idling for a period of time. It will drop to empty again until I start driving.  Do I have a problem with the sensor in the tank?

 The fuel sender in the fuel tank is defective and needs to be replaced.  They sometimes deposits from impurities and chemical reactions in the fuel so a fuel system cleaner like an injector cleaner in the tank sometimes works.  PUlling the tank is probably going to be the solution and replacing it.  Be sure to ask for the sender separately or you will be paying for the whole shooting match.  The fuel pump module comes with a sender but senders come by themselves as well.
