Chevrolet Repair: 2000 Chevy Tahoe, chevy tahoe, wheel speed

We just purchased a used 2000 Chevy Tahoe, the ABS light is staying on.  My question is with the light staying on could this be a safety hazard? Should this be checked out immediately?  Thanks!!!!!

 When you start your TAhoe the ABS computer does a complete self diagnostic test on all actuators and sensors.  Should acomponent fail while driving or seem iffy the EBCM will turn the light on. When the light is on you do not have ABS.  Most vehicles resort to manual braking but some require the ABS to work to have a good pedal and good response.  You should have the base brakes tested and scanned for codes.  YOu probably have a bad wheel speed sensor.
