Chevrolet Repair: Fuel System, fuel pressure, fuel pump

Question
I have a 98 Silverado with a 5.7 350. Sometimes when I try to start the engine, it acts as though there is no fuel being sent. MOST of the time it works fine. The fuel pump is about a year old. All the fuses that I've check are OK. Could it be a short or something?

Answer
Hey,

You need to start by checking fuel pressure.  The CPI unit needs at least 55 psi to start.  I have had a bunch of new pumps go bad in the last year myself.  You probably have warranty on the pump as most have at least 2 years on them.
