Chevrolet Repair: 1987 chev astro minivan, signal lites, door handle

Question
I broke the door handle on the back door.how do I get it open?
I also keep blowing fuses when I turn my signal lites on.Where do I start looking for a short?

Sorry for the delay my dad had a bypass surgery on Tuesday and I am just getting to these messages now.

Climb in the back and carefull pull the inner carpet out of the right hand door (drivers rear).   YOu can pull it out because it is glued to cardboard and clipped in under the plastic door panel.  Once you get it out a bit reach in and grab the rod and pull upwards.  I have done this tons of times.  Sometimes the plastic cracks on the door panel when they get brittle but you sometimes get a scar after surgery too.
