Chevrolet Repair: need advice, mercedes 450sl, chev camaro

Question
I have a 1998 chev camaro LS1, 4 bed engine.  I havn't driven it in about a year a mechanic had said I should not start the car untill I empty the fuel.  Do I need to do this?  If I take it in how many hours of labor will they charge me?  Or is it simple enough to have done @ home?

Answer
Hey,

I can't see pulling the tank after just a year.  Whenever you let a vehicle sit for that long there are some things you can do to prepare for it.  Like removing or putting the battery on a maintainer, pushing back the calipers so the pads arent touching the rotors, adding a fuel stabilizer to the gas etc.
I have three classic cars.  A 1930 Model A Roadster, a 1971 Eldorado Convertible 500 and a Mercedes 450sl Convertible.  They rarely move so I just add a fuel stabilizer and some methyl Hydrate to the fuel to collect any water.
If the Tank was full I would add a couple of small bottles of methyl hydrate, an octane boost and some cleaner and start the thing up.  There isn't anything in the tank that the sock and filter arent going to trap anyways.

Maybe drive it around, burnt out that fuel, fill it upa nd change the filter at most.
