Pontiac Repair: 1996 Pontiac Sunfire GT, pontiac sunfire, speed sensors

Question
We have a 96 Pontiac Sunfire GT. The abs light comes on and off when it wants to. The sensors are good, the brake fluid is good, the brakes are good, what could be causing this? Please help this car is driving me crazy.

Answer
Hey George:

well first off you need to know what code is being set in the ABS system and then go from there. a lot of auto parts stores will scan the cars systems for free. Autozone,Advance etc... once you know what the code is you can proceede to look for the problem. The most common issue with that car is wire issues going to the front wheel speed sensors. if you live in the rust belt like I do the wires corrode along where they are attached to the crontrol arms for the suspension. if not in the rust belt the wires tend to just have open circuits due to the wires flexing on the suspension. Taht is the most common issue. Another issus those cars had was with the ABS motor packs but the light would not be on and off with that the light would stay on all the time. good luck :)
