Chevrolet Repair: Tahoe 2000 Fuel pump replacement, low oil pressure, fuel pump relay

Question
I was changing my intank fuel pump and while I had the vehicle jacked up thought I would change the oil. It will not start and I have check all the connections. I read that low oil pressure could keep the fuel pump from running.
If so, how can I fix my stupidity?

Answer
Hey,

Its not going to have to do anything with low oil pressure.  Some circuits were designed to bypass the fuel pump relay with the OPS when oil pressure was met to let the fuel pump run if the relay was defective in an emergency but not on your model anyways.  If that were the case they would never start cold.  You really have no oil pressure when a vehicle is cranking, maybe  just a little bit, but not very much.  Thats why it takes a second for the oil light to go out when you start it.
You need to make sure you have the pump installed properly.  Instead of pulling the tank back out you can check continuity of the circuit with an ohmmeter at the fuel pump relay.  Go from the switched side to ground and record your value.  Those units were bad for the fuel pump plug to get loose from current flowing through it all the time.  Bypass the relay with 12v if you have to to see if the pump runs.  Get the pump running first.
