Chevrolet Repair: 1988 chevy beretta, chevy beretta, fuel pressure

Question
my 1988 chevy beretta that i just purchased is a 5 speed manual and when i am driving it on the highway it does good up to 50 m.p.h, or 4,000 r.p.m and then it just sputters and will not go any faster what do i need to fix. Ivan in Idaho

Answer
Hey,

You need to check fuel pressure and then exhaust back pressure.  If fuel pressure is 32psi when it is sputtering remove the 02 sensor and drive it.  If it works fine you have a restriction in the exhaust which is most likely a plugged cat.
