Chevrolet Repair: fan for heat, defrost, etc.. Chevy Cavalier, 1991, chevy cavalier, fuse panel

Question
QUESTION: My fan for the heater and defrost just stopped running.  It was running fine I parked the car and now it doesn't run at all.  The car gets warm and doesn't overheat, but I can't defrost the windshield or stay warm.  How could I fix this?  I have some mechanical ability but not enough to take an engine apart.

ANSWER: Hi Jacquie,

The fan for the heater has nothing to do with the engine.  The fan motor may have just seized or have something holding it from turning.  Be sure to check all the fuses first and then see if there is 12 volts and ground at the motor.  A technician can test this for you in a very short period of time.

QUESTION: The fuse panel is up under the steering wheel and I have no idea what fuse to pull.  Is there a way to drop the panel down so that you can see the fuses or do you have a panel quide to let me know which one to try?

ANSWER: Hey Jacquie,

The fuse panel identifications are in your owners handbook at the back.  It should be in your glovebox and will tell you where all of the fuses and what they do.

QUESTION: I don't have a manual, it is an old car.  Do you have a copy or is there a web site that I could take a look at the panel display?

Answer
Hey Jacquie,

I can give you the diagram but not until Tuesday when I am back to work.  Monday is Canada's new holiday called 'Family Day'.

You can go to your nearest auto wreckers and snag one out of a old car.  They typically won't charge you for these and may have a stack behind the counter.
