Chevrolet Repair: drum brakes on 1994 s-10 blazer tahoe, lug bolt, drum brakes

Question
I can not get the drums off to change the breaks. They appear seized (rusted) to the center. I have released the pressure of the shoes and shocked them with a hammer...Is there any special thing holding them on?

Answer
Get a big hammer (2 pound) and beat the drum around the outer edge.  Bang on the surface that faces you and the back of the rim.  Don't bang on the sides or you could break the drums.  Bang and bang until the drum starts to move.  Sometimes these drums take a lot of beating to come off.  Remember, outer edge on the face (lug bolt surface). You should be banging toward the axle, not the front or rear of the truck.  Vary where you put the blows.  Bang an area 3or4 times and move the hammer.

Be prepared to find the drums too worn for reuse.  You may have to buy new ones.
