Chevrolet Repair: 1993 GMC 1500 Engine failure/s, fuel pressure gauge, gmc 1500

Question
Hi Wayne.  I've got a 1993 GMC 5.7l 350.  I suppose I just need to be pointed in the right direction here and was hoping maybe you could tell me where.  As of late the truck has been running rough.  At stops, it dies and then wont start for at least two hours after the initial breakdown.  It seems to just die when idling. I had it idling at about 900rpm a moment ago.  I revved it to 1100 and it sputters out and dies unless I give it more gas.  Anything more than 1200 and it seems to survive.  I've been told to look at the electronics but this doesn't sound electric to me.  Someone mentioned spark module.  I had the fuel pump replaced about one year ago as well.  At a bit of a crossroads with what I should be looking at here.  Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hey Brendan,

You need to put a fuel pressure gauge on the truck and see if you are running out of fuel pressure first.  When it is in a no start condition check for spark at the coil and then at a plug is a good idea.  You want  it to be nice a sharp and bright blue.
An ignition module won't cause it to run rough because the driver in the module either works or doesn't.  If the module doesn't work you will have no spark when cranking it.
Try and narrow down the first part of the trouble tree, fuel or spark.  If you can tell me which one is lacking when it doesn't start I can help you more from there.
