Chevrolet Repair: 2000 Silverado turns over but wont fire and start, fuel pump relay, distinctive noise

Question
My 2000 Silverado with the 5.3L engine has suddenly decided not to start.  It has exhibited absolutely no problems previously.  The engine turns over with plenty of power but will not fire and start.  I have checked all electrical connections under the hood and all related fuses.  The Service Engine light is on, but I'm not sure if there is an error code or it's simply on because the engine is not running.  I have noticed that when I turn on the ignition, there is no noise from the fuel pump.  Normally (as with my 2000 Yukon) I can hear the pump pressurize when the ignition is turned on.  I'm looking for the next logical step here.

Answer
Hey Mark,

Some GM pumps are quiet but the Silverado's make a distinctive noise for sure.  If the pump is not priming or pressurizing the rail thats your no start.

Check all fuses
Check fuel pump relay and swap with another relay with same part number (the grey and black micro relays)

If the brushes are worn down on the pump sometimes they get stuck when they are extremely worn on the commutator ring inside the pump.  A trick I use at the shop is to give the fuel tank a boot to get it back in so I can pull the tank.  I check pumps with an oscilloscope and low amp probe which you probably don't have so give the tank a boot. If it starts you kjow what to do.
