Chevrolet Repair: 1997 GMC Sierra, 4WD, 5.7L V8, 144k miles, gmc sierra, torque converter

Question
1997 GMC Sierra, 4WD, 5.7L V8, 144k miles

Actually I have two questions if that's ok.  The first one is related to the drive train.  I've had the transmission rebuilt twice; however, the truck still makes a rattling sound at low RPMs when it shifts into overdrive at low speeds (if you shift into 3 it goes away).  Do you know what is causing this?  It seems to be getting worse/louder over time...

The second question relates to the interior door handle.  It is hard to open the door from the inside (on the drivers side), but you can open it easily from outside the truck.  Do you think this has something to do with the handle assemble inside the door panel?

Thanks,
David

Answer
Hey David,

Loose torque converter bolts cause the weirdest of problems.  I might need some more info on a noise or a rattle though.

The interior door handle is attached to a long rod that goes to the latch.  This rod has a couple of bends in it and over time the bend can get a little excessive and not allow the handle to disengage the lock properly.  Make sure the pins and bushings aren't worn out too though.  OPen the door half way and grab the door by the glass and lift up.  There shouldn't be too much play up and down.  Old worn out door pins cause the latch to drag and make it difficult to open from the inside because of the push torque. When you open the door from the outside you lift the handle up.
