Chevrolet Repair: torsion bar repalcement, torsion bar, bolts and nuts

Question
i would like to know how to change torsion bar on a 1988 gmc 1 ton 4x4 454 driver side

Answer
Do you have a torsion bar unloader?

Remove adjusting screw and count threads.  Remove screw and net, release unloader slowly until torsion bar is completely unloaded.  Remove unloader tool.
Detach torsion bar support retainer mounting bolts and nuts then remove support cushions.  Slide torsion bar forward in lower control arm to clear support.  Pull down and slide back to remove bar.  remove cross member support and arms (if nec)
Make sure you check the adjustment screw for damaged threads or worn out threads.
Torsion bar is in proper position when no more than 1.3" on k series vehicles is present between rear end of bar and rear wall of cross member support.  Install unloader tool and tighten to proper tension.
Install adjusting nut same number of turns aas when loosened.  Check ride height and recheck adjustment after road test to let bar relax.
