Chevrolet Repair: 1999 Chevy Cavalier, chevy cavalier, coolant temp

Question
I have a 99 cavalier that has seen a few hands. What the thing is doing is loading up. spitting out a 171 code. The computer has been replaced, reprogrammed and the fuel trim reset. The map and ECT sensor has been replaced and still loads up. The o2 has been changed as well. Can the TPS and the IAC cause this problem?

Answer
Hi Chris,

It is possble you have a leaky injector.   The IAC is idle.  If it idles good, that is probably not it.  The TPS asks for more or less fuel.  That could be bad, but usually it has a dead spot when it is bad.  It could be out of adjustment somehow, but doubtful.

Coolant temp sensor is the old choke.  The MAP is the sensor that senses vacuum load.  The less man. vacuum it sees the more gas it dumps.  Those were good attempts.

I would look for a bad injector.  Pull the plugs and see which is loaded up (wet).  That injector is possibly a leaker.
