Chevrolet Repair: 1993 Chevy 1500 truck, alternator pulley, chev 1500

Question
I have a 1993 Chev 1500 truck. I just replaced the alternator along with the serpentine belt. How do I adjust the belt tentioner to get it back on properly as now I cannot get it on, I'm sure the old belt had stretched to where the tentioner had adjusted forward. My question is .... what method ( tools ) do I need to get the pully adjusted back far enough to put it back on to do it's job properly and keep the " play " out of the belt?

Answer
Hi Dan H.

No adjustment.  The tensioner is all there is.  You should not have too much play.  check the routing.  Sometimes you can go around the pulleys in a different way that seems right, but is wrong.  Check to see you have the right belt.  Possibly you got a belt that considers an option you don't have or a year off of your model year.  Is the alternator pulley on the new one the same size?  You should use your old pulley if possible.
