Chevrolet Repair: Chevy Blazer 03, chevy blazer, high tech computer

Question
I am wondering if there is a way to access the codes with the key sequences they used to have? I used to buy the shop manual for my vehicles but haven't for this one.

Answer
Hi Glenn,

Since 1996, all cars went to OBD-II.  That is a high-tech computer system that doesn't work the old way.  That is good and bad.

Good news is you can communicate with the car more now.  You don't get a wild code and try to pinpoint why.  You get readings that tell almost exactly what the problem is.

Bad news is you need a scanner that costs about $300 for a cheapie.  You can get these at neighborhood chain parts stores.  If you have an Autozone, they will scan your vehicle for free, hoping you will buy parts at their store.
