Chevrolet Repair: Water pump replacement, water pump replacement, fan shroud

Question
Hi, I am having to replace the water pump on my 1988 S-10 Blazer, it has the 4.3L V-6. I am wondering if I have to disconnect my timing chain or any thing major like that in order to do the water pump replacement? It looks like I will have to remove the fan shroud and blades, then several pulleys and the serpentine belt but I can't tell if there are any more major obstacles can you please help me?

Answer
Hi Jason,

Your water pump on that motor fits around the timing cover.  You don't pull the timing chain to do the water pump.

The pump is held on by 4 bolts, 2 on each side.  You will pull the shroud, and fan.  I would pull the radiator or put a piece of cardboard or plywood in front of it.  You may nick it with the repairs.  You will pull some brackets that surround the water pump housing.  That involves pulling accessories.  The pump is right there.

This is not too difficult.  Go easy and slow.
