Chevrolet Repair: brakes, wheel drive car, cv shaft

Question
Hope you can help me. I have a 1998 GMC 2500 4x4 pu. I am needing to change my front rotors badly. I can't figure out how to get the rotor off. I am very mechanical and this is probably a stupid question but it has me stumped. I took the caliper off as well as the cv shaft nut(it is 4x4). It is almost like you have to take the spindle off to get the rotor off, is this true? If so how does this come off? I tried the 4 bolts that go in through the back of it and broke three rachets trying this. So I am not sure please help. thanks Gary

Answer
Hi Gary,

I am almost afraid to tell you this, seeing how much trouble you have been through already.  You remove the caliper, remove any anchor bracket surrounding the rotor (if one), then just use a hammer and knock the rotor off.

Do you have the new ones yet?  If so, you should see that they just fit on over the studs, just like a front wheel drive car.

Sorry :(
