Chevrolet Repair: light on car radio, dash lights, dimmer switch

the light on the car radio works fine until i turn on the headlights. the light then goes off. when you turn the headlights off again the light on the radio comes back on. I have always seen the light dime when headlights go on never go out completely.

Hi David,

Sounds like your headlight switch might be worn out inside.  But first, check your dimmer switch to make sure it is not turned toward 'dim dash lights', too far. When you are in the dark again, turn on the headlights.  Then play with the dimmer and see if the radio comes back on.  There should also be a position for leaving the radio bright, even when the headlights are on.  See if that works.  If you get nothing with the headlights on, the headlight switch is shot.  Usually you loose all dash lights.  But not always.  If you have an external dimmer switch, from the headlight, then the dimmer switch may be the culpret.
