Chevrolet Repair: Lifters???, chevy monte carlo, annoying noise

Question
I have a 1997 Chevy Monte Carlo.  Everything runs great and looks great... with the exception of when I start the car for the first time in the morning, or after the engine has set for awhile, cooling off.  Ive asked around, and Ive been told that it is most likely the lifters? making the bit of noise that i hear.  (the noise does stop after a minute or two) How would I go about replacing these?  And is there any way you can give me a rough estimate on how much it should cost.  I love my car and dont want it damaged beyond repair.

Answer
Hi Shana,

To have it done, probably a few hundred.  To do it your self, probably under $50.  It is more moderate to difficult of a repair.  A lot of things need to come off the motor to get to them.  You are going to disable all the valves and then need to reset them.

If you don't have them fixed.  You could bend a pushrod.  You will possibly run poorly since the valves are being slammed open as opposed to being opened normally.  Otherwise it is just an annoying noise.

My Grandpa bought this car.  I went with him to pick it up at the dealer when it was new.  I loved it too.  Well worth fixing.

Good Luck
