Chevrolet Repair: Left front brake and wheel assembly, 2 ton chevrolet suburban, chevrolet suburban

Question
97 1500 1/2 Ton Chevrolet Suburban. Both front wheels were extremely hot to the touch after driving approximately 25 miles.  I started to look into the problem and when pulling off the cover to the brake fluid resevoir the gasket was in the fluid and was letting in air.  Also was not getting much push from my brake pedal until I replaced the gasket after which I got alot better response from the pedal.  I again drove the 25 miles and this time had alot of smoke coming from the LF wheel at this time, also very hot to touch.  I have recently replaced the calipers on this wheel.  I will be pulling the wheel off tomorrow morning and be checking the caliper.  I would like to know what if anything else I can look for.  Could there possibly be air in the line which would be contributing to the brake not releasing far enough?  Also wondring if brake fluid could be contaminated since gasket had come off and this would be creating a problem?  Could the calipers also have something to do with it, possibly sticking real bad?

Thanks
Blake

Answer
Blake,
You could have air in the system, and your fluid is now bad since the gasket came loose. Also, if your calipers are sticking this will heat up the wheel. I would bleed the system, and check your calipers. You may have brakes that are bad also since the calipers havent been releasing...
