Chevrolet Repair: power windows on 2003 chevy malibu, chevy malibu, rough patch

Question
I am hoping you can point me in the right direction.  I have a  2003 chevy malibu 4 door sedan with power windows. The rear driver side window will no longer raise.  When I hold down the  switch, the window motor makes the normal noise but the window  does not move.  If I hit a bump or rough patch in the road the window will slide open and I have to manually raise it back up.  Since the window motor seems to be working, is it possible that the window is just no longer on it's track? If so is this something I could fix myself?

Answer
Hi Jim,

Sounds like the motor has pulled away from the regulator shaft.  Probably jarred loose.

I don't know your skill lever, but this is not hard.  Pull the door panel off and look inside.  That will tell you alot.  The window motor does not have a stop in itself.  It will run continuously.  The regulator maxing out is what stops it.  So no adjustment is necessary.  Just tighten the motor back to the shaft.

Good Luck
