Chevrolet Repair: ECM Fuse Keeps Blowing, amp fuse, chevy suburban

Question
QUESTION: "I have a 2000 3/4 ton Chevy Suburban. I havent had any trouble with this vehicle until the past
few days. The 20 amp fuse for the ECM-b has been blowing out. The frequency is starting to
increase too. I have tried different things, such as not having the AC on, driving in 3rd gear
instead of OD, etc. Nothing has made a difference. There isnt anything that I have noticed that
has been the same as the last time it blew. I had a diognostic check done on it, but it doesnt
show what the problem is. I talked to the local Chevy dealer and they said they're not sure off
hand what it would be. They said it might be a short somewhere, but aren't sure where it would
be without tracing everything to find it. I don't have that kind of money for all the hours of
labor that would result in. Any ideas would be helpful on this matter. "

ANSWER: Is there anything electrical that youve added to the vehicle. Radio, lights etc.

QUESTION: No not at all. I've been trying to think of anything that I have done recently. The only thing I can think of is that I had the oil changed. I called the place where I had it done at, and they assured me that they wouldnt have touched anything electrical to make this happen. I am really at a loss with this. I was crawling in and around the vehicle yesterday wiggling wires and such, but had no luck in finding the problem. HELP!
ANSWER: Are there any lights like the check engine that come on?
Does the shifter overdrive flash?

QUESTION: No lights or warnings that come on. No warning to it at all actually. It only seems to do it when its been driven for a while and only when being driven. I had it sitting in my driveway running for about an hour and it never blew the fuse. This was after it blew 3 times on me while running a few errands today. The whole electrical system goes goofy after the fuse blows tho. The Daytime running lights are on when its in park, etc. You cant even tell what gear its in because the little highlighted square that shows the gear selection dissapears. Really weird stuff. Very aggrivating to say the least.
ANSWER: Look towards the transmission shifter solenoid.
Does it shift hard or take longer to shift once the ecm fuse is blown?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Well when the fuse blows, the truck shuts down. I cant drive anywhere. I have to pull over and change the fuse. After I change the fuse, the vehicle does start back up, but it runs really rough for the first few minutes. After that, it seems to be fine until the fuse blows again. No problems with how it shifts or anything like that. Kinda weird huh?
ANSWER: Yes  it is weird, but we can figure it out.
First, find out the list of things (be precise with the year make and model) that the ECM controls. Email it to me and I can probably give you a fair idea of what is causing the "short"

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: I'm not sure where to find out exactly what it controls. If I look in the owners manual, it shows that the usage for the fuse that keeps blowing is VCM/PCM. Whatever that means. The truck is a 2000 3/4 ton Chevy Suburban that is 4x4. If this isn't what you mean, please let me know. Thanks
ANSWER: Thats close!!
The information I need can be found on the internet, but I am shorter on time in research then you might think. I am currently putting together a non profit corporation by myself. If you can find this info It would help a lot. If not, email me back and I will research it a little more.

QUESTION: I was looking before I replied the last time and I couldnt find anything. I'm sure I wasnt looking in the right places. I realize that you don't owe me anything, but if you would please look that up or send me a website to look at, I would appreciate it. Please dont make this your #1 priority tho. Just whenever you might have the time would be fine. Thanks  Shawn

Answer
Shawn,

I found this doing some research:
ECM B fuse in fuse/relay box under hood had blown.

Found totally plugged fuel filter. Changed filter, replaced fuse. Checked fuel pump relay (in same box), saw one pin that appeared to have been hot. Changed relay.

Truck started. Still running fine.
Hope it helps.
