Chevrolet Repair: Chevy Venture A/C Condenser, radiator hoses, r 134a

Question
Hi I have a 2001 Chevy Venture with a leak at the drivers side of the condenser. I have heard this is a common problem on these vans. What I am wondering is what is the easiest way (if there is one) to remove the condenser. Also what parts are needed other than the condenser, refrigerant, pag oil. Also does the rad need to be removed as well or is it possible to remove the condenser by itself. Thanks Corey

Answer
Hi Corey,

The parts:  R-134a, oil, should be a recharge kit, just use that.  Also, you will want to evacuate the system.  That is where you vacuum out all the oxygen that got into the system.  Not necessary if only a few days exposed to the atmosphere.  The rules say, one hour exposed is the cut off.  After that you need to evacuate.  The rules also say you should replace the accumulator.  No need if you want my opinion.

The procedure:  Remove the cooling fan, the radiator, the condensor.  You need to remove radiator hoses, transmission cool lines, any oil cool lines, any other coolant lines.  The condensor lines are connected by an inlet and an outlet.  Once everything is reinstalled, recharge the system (unless you plan to evacuate first).

Easy job, but take your time.  Use the correct coolant, and refrigerant oil.

If you need more info, write back.
