Chevrolet Repair: starting, chevy tracker, chevy dealer

Question
i have a 2000 chevy tracker w remote starter on it, but i dont use it...I have put starters on it and still it wont start up everytime, i have to keep turn keep and finally it starts

Answer
Hi Linda,

Is that a GEO or a Chevy?  What ever the case, they are both GM.

If the starter is turning over the motor (cranking) but the motor will not start, then the starter is not the problem.

If the starter is acting dead, or making a ping type noise under the car, and the motor does not turn over (crank), this could be starter or connection.

If the problem is cranking but no start, that could be mechanical or theft problem.  If it is theft control problem then the following will apply.

Is the theft system light blinking?

This next information will sound crazy, but was told to me be the local Chevy dealer.  If the theft system has disabled your car, Turn the key enough to unlock the steering wheel and shifter.  Put the car in neutral and roll it in one direction.  Then roll it back.  If possible, give it a bump (like running into a curb GENTLY).  Then turn the key off and wait 20 minutes.  Try the key again.

This procedure should have reset the theft computer.  You are trying to mimick the movements a tow truck would put your car through.  Most times this car would be hauled to the dealer, on a flat bed tow truck.  By the time the car gets there, the movements of loading the car and driving it to the dealer will reset the computer.  The car usually starts when unloaded, and you pay for the repair.  Nice Huh?

Do I need to meantion that GM is having a problem with this theft system?  They don't seem to care, there is repair money in it.

If it is not the theft system, then have someone check that you are getting fuel or spark when you are cranking the motor.  If not, find the source of that problem.  If you need more help from here, write back.
