Chevrolet Repair: 1988 Chevy 4x4 5.0 tbi stalling, chevy 4x4, fuller tank

Question
Hey there,

I just bought an 88 chevy 1500 4x4. After a hard stop, the engine surges and dies like it is running out of fuel. Sometimes it will take 2 or 3 mins to restart. This is with a quarter tank of fuel.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Answer
It could be several things but I think you may be on the right track with the fuel system. I have seen this before when the plastic baffles in the gas tank become dislodged from the tank and moves around in the tank. On hard stopping the baffles slide around and cause the gas to move hard to the front of the tank causing the fuel pump to starve fuel. Being it doesn't happen when it's has a fuller tank of gas...this may be your problem. Or gas gas gauge is not completely accurate and you really have less than a quarter tank when it displays a quarter.
