Chevrolet Repair: 91 Chevy K1500 5.0 manual Tranny, chevy k1500, filter air

Question
Low power, slight surging idle and driving, wants to overheat replaced plugs, wires, dist cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter. Checked cooling system replaced thermostat. I think the heating is just from lack of power. Check for fault codes, only code 12. I went to check the timing, when I unplugged the tan wire my engine idled good! Checked timing it is at zero. Can my truck be over advancing the timing? I have just been in a bad car wreck and I can't work on this truck but a few mins at a time. I also just bought this truck as well. Thank you

Answer
Hi Rickey, This sounds just like the pick up coil is bad inside the distributor. The best way to correct this problem is to replace the dist with a rebuilt unit. This way you get all new stuff inside.

Hope this helps
