Chevrolet Repair: 1993 lumina van, lumina van, left hand corner

Question
Hope you can help, I am having real electrical problems with my van. The problem is that when it warms up it stops charging. It has the little indicator light (battery pic) i the top left hand corner of the dash. Anyway the temp gage goes up to hot even when the actual temp is not hot, it starts to backfire and knock and stops charging. If you attempt to re-start it it does not indicate a charge until the motor cools again. It's very weird. Diagnostic test revealed nothing but the MAS sensor which was changed along with alternator, and cables and battery ground. Any suggestions as to what might cause this??
Hope you can shed some light.
thanks Gloria

Answer
Hi Gloria, The problem in this van is most likely corroded wiring. They will have to trace out the wiring from the alternator to the battery. The large red wire is the one to focas on. Sometimes it is easier to run new wire then to locate the bad part of a wire. This is all I can think of.
