Chevrolet Repair: gas gauge, 82 Silverado, gas gauge, dual tanks

The gas gauge on my 82 isn't reading correct. I have dual tanks and have replaced the tank selector switch. When the switch is pushed lightly either way the gauge reads past full, but when pushed again the same way it drops down way low. The drivers side is full as I just gassed up but is reading just above a 1/4 tank. Any help is greatly appreciated. Tom

There are two different selector switches for that.
One is spring loaded at the end of travel in each direction for carbureted trucks.
The other is not spring loaded, meaning it just clicks in one direction or the other. It is for fuel injected trucks.
Make sure you have the correct switch.
